Montauk State Park back on track

After months of being closed due to a severe flood, Montauk State Park is finally ready to reopen its gates to day-use guests on February 24th and overnight guests on February 25th.

The park suffered significant damage from the massive flood in November, resulting in the loss of electrical service at Campground Loop 4. Due to this, campsites in the 400 loop will only be available as primitive campsites upon reopening.

Customers with reservations for loop 4 in February will be notified by the Missouri Division of State Parks. The park is diligently addressing the issue and aims to promptly restore electric service. If any additional reservations are impacted, customers will receive notification from the division. It is important for campers to remember that generators can only be used outside of designated quiet hours.

Although the park will be open for the opening day of catch-and-keep trout season, guests may notice changes due to the recent flood. Sand still covers the grass and surrounding woodlands, and our team will be working on reseeding affected areas of the campground and other day-use areas to restore the grass.

According to Justin Adams, Ozarks regional director, the Missouri State Parks team members and volunteers have been diligently preparing the park for opening and tidying it up. However, there are still tasks that need to be completed.
